Castle Sween was occupied by Clan MacMillan in the 15th century.
George MacMillan of MacMillan and Knap is the hereditary chief of the clan.
Clan MacMillan International Centre and our chief's home are located at Finlaystone.
At over 800 years old, Clan MacMillan is among the most active and vital of Scottish clans. Clan MacMillan International Centre is the headquarters of the clan, located at Finlaystone in Langbank, Scotland where Chief George MacMillan of MacMillan and Knap resides. The Clan Centre also has a museum and an extensive family history archive, the contents of which are gradually being made available on this website as Project MAOL (Macmillan Ancestry On Line).
Clan MacMillan is represented by branches and societies in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand as well as the UK. Every year or two clanspeople converge at gatherings, these usually in North America or Scotland. See a listing of upcoming gatherings and other events.
While every MacMillan, regardless of spelling, (and there are over 250 spellings) and septs is a member of the Clan, we hope they will become a member of Clan MacMillan International and support the efforts of our Chief and Clan.
